Privacy Policy

Lake Erie Boating does not collect, store or transmit any personal information. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking of any kind.

Your location

The app can optionally use your location for one purpose: choosing which of its 23 built-in Lake Erie launch points is closest to you. If you tap “Use my location”, iOS asks your permission, the app reads a single coarse position, picks the nearest spot from its list, and discards the reading.

Your position is never transmitted, stored or logged. Forecasts are requested for the fixed, published coordinates of the launch point you are viewing — not for where you are. You can use every feature of the app without granting location access at all.

What is stored on your device

The app keeps a small amount of information in its own storage on your iPhone or iPad:

• Your unit preferences (knots or mph, °F or °C, feet or metres)
• Which launch point you last selected
• Your notification settings and comfort thresholds
• A cache of National Weather Service forecast grid identifiers, so the app makes fewer requests
• The identifiers of weather advisories it has already notified you about, so you are not told twice

None of this leaves your device, and all of it is deleted when you delete the app.

Services the app contacts

To show a forecast, the app requests public data directly from these US Government services:

• api.weather.gov — National Weather Service forecasts, advisories and nearshore marine text
• www.ndbc.noaa.gov — National Data Buoy Center observations
• api.tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov — NOAA CO-OPS water levels

These requests contain the coordinates or station identifier of the public launch point or buoy being displayed, and the ordinary information every internet request carries, including your IP address. NOAA’s handling of that is governed by its own privacy policy. The app sends no identifier for you or your device.

Map views are drawn using Apple Maps, which receives the map region being displayed. That is handled under Apple’s privacy policy.

Notifications

If you turn on notifications, they are composed and scheduled entirely on your device from the forecast the app has already downloaded. Nothing is sent to a server, and no push service is involved.

Children

The app collects no information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
